The Scotty Cameron Phantom 2026 lineup is the most complete mallet collection the brand has produced. Three tour-proven head shapes — the Phantom 5, Phantom 7, and the all-new Phantom 9R — are now available in nine unique configurations, each built around a brand-new full-face Studio Carbon Steel (SCS) insert with chain-link face milling. The result is softer feel, sharper distance control, and more options to match your stroke type than any previous Phantom generation.
How the 2026 Phantom is built
The headline change for 2026 is the face. Every Phantom model now features a full-face Studio Carbon Steel (SCS) insert with a chain-link milling pattern — the same technology that debuted in the 2025 Studio Style blade lineup. Carbon steel has a greater natural dampening capacity than Teryllium, stainless steel, and aluminum, producing a noticeably softer, more muted feel at impact without sacrificing the ball-speed consistency and feedback the Phantom line is known for.
The chain-link milling pattern reduces the number of contact points between face and ball at impact. This further softens the sound and feel while maintaining sharpness of feedback — important for golfers dialing in distance control on longer putts.
Integrating the insert into the winged Phantom body shapes required internal structural reinforcement. On the Phantom 5 and 7, removing face material to accommodate the insert weakened the structure and introduced unwanted vibrations. Scotty’s engineering team redesigned the internal construction of each model to eliminate that issue before the putters went to production.
All 2026 Phantom models also feature several shape refinements informed by tour player feedback: a deeper face for a more consistent delivery angle, a rounded topline for cleaner ball-positioning visuals, and redesigned sole plates that sit more flush to the ground for a repeatable setup.
Scotty Cameron Phantom 2026 models explained

Phantom 5 – Compact wingback mallet
The Phantom 5 is a modern wingback mallet with a compact profile — small enough to feel blade-like at address while delivering the forgiveness and stability of a larger head. It’s been one of the most-used mallets on the PGA Tour, with Justin Thomas, Russell Henley, and the 2025 FedEx St. Jude champion all trusting Phantom 5 tour prototypes last season.
For 2026, the Phantom 5 gains a single sightline and becomes the first shape available in an Onset Center (OC) configuration — a low-torque, near-face-balanced setup designed for straight-back-straight-through stroke players. The 5 OC arrives in shops April 24, 2026.
- Phantom 5 — Mid-bend shaft, near-face-balanced
- Phantom 5.2 — Plumbing (L-neck), moderate toe flow, blade-like setup at address
- Phantom 5.5 — Jet neck, maximum toe flow
- Phantom 5 OC — Onset Center, low-to-zero torque (available April 24)

Phantom 7 – Sharp-angled wingback mallet
The Phantom 7 has a larger footprint and more angular shape than the 5. Its longer wings create strong rail-like sightlines that make alignment one of the most visual and intuitive in the Scotty Cameron lineup. Patrick Cantlay, the 2021 FedExCup champion, and recent PGA Tour winner Michael Brennan both rely on Phantom 7.2 tour prototypes.
New for 2026 is a double-bend shaft (DB) configuration, developed directly from tour player requests. The double-bend setup delivers a more face-balanced feel while maintaining the 7’s strong alignment profile — a first for any Phantom model.
- Phantom 7 — Mid-bend shaft
- Phantom 7.2 — Plumbing (L-neck), moderate toe flow
- Phantom 7.5 — Jet neck, maximum toe flow
- Phantom 7 DB — Double-bend shaft, more face-balanced

Phantom 9R
The Phantom 9R is the most significant new addition to the lineup. Building on the angular Phantom 9 shape that debuted in 2024, the 9R softens every edge and contour of its predecessor for a rounder, more approachable look at address. The “R” stands for Rounded.
The shape earned its tour stripes quickly — Cameron Young trusted a 9R prototype on the way to winning his first PGA Tour title last season. The 9R is also the only model in the lineup to feature a full-length sight line, making it the most visually guided option in the 2026 Phantom family.
- Phantom 9R — Single-bend, full-length sightline
- Phantom 9.2R — Plumbing (L-neck), shorter abbreviated sightline
Choosing the right 2026 Phantom
With nine configurations across three head shapes, there’s a Phantom built for nearly every stroke type. Here’s a quick guide:
Straight-back, straight-through stroke: Phantom 5 OC or Phantom 7 DB
Coming from a blade: Phantom 5.2 or Phantom 7.2 (plumbing neck looks and feels like a blade at address)
Slight arc, prefer a compact head: Phantom 5 or Phantom 5.5
Moderate arc, want strong alignment: Phantom 7 or Phantom 7.5
Want a modern rounded mallet: Phantom 9R
All nine models share the same Studio Carbon Steel insert, chain-link milling, and core specifications. The primary differences are head size, neck type, and how face-balanced each setup plays — so the best choice comes down to your stroke arc and what looks right when you stand over a putt.
